Sally Hansen Salon Effects in Check It Out Swatch

I've been using these nail polish strips since I first found out about them in December 2010. I have tried all colors, glitters, brands and designs in the book...you name it I've tried it. The one color that little old me has been a little shy about trying has been the black & white graphic coolness that is Check It Out.
Check it Out w/flash
Now, the reason why I've been hesitant to try it was because I was unsure of whether it look too "young" for a girl in her twenties or just clash with my outfits or make me look like some crazy girl. I saw there was a coupon for the salon effect nail strips and I told myself "Ahh, f#$k it, I need to try this design out", so I did.

Check it Out w/out flash
I love it! These look so cool and fashion forward. Everywhere I got a lot of compliments from strangers as well. I don't feel like these look too childish, but I would never wear these in a corporate setting. The Check It Out print did not clash with my outfits, I feel like it kind of enhanced my look and added a bit of funky flair to it. (Then again I tend to wear a lot of neutrals). Definitely glad I checked out Check It Out.

Tarina Tarantino Electric Butterfly Hypershadow Review

Tarina Tarantino released the Electric Butterfly "Hypershadow" as a part of her summer 2011 makeup collection and I recently purchased it online through Sephora, so I wanted to talk to you lovely folks about my experience with it. Electric Butterfly is supposed to be a high-intensity, sizzling hot orange but it fell short. I was expecting a psychedelic blaze of orange eyeshadow, but all I got was semi-chalky not very pigmented eyeshadow. Also, the color is NOT electric orange, but more of a pumpkin colored eyeshadow with hints of gold shimmer (which I kinda prefer). The pumpkin color is pretty, but I just wish it were more pigmented. At least the packaging was cute...

Eyeshadow case includes a mirror
Aside from Electric Butterfly not being very pigmented it also does not have much staying power either, which sucks because this eyeshadow retails for $19! Thankfully, I got it on sale and only paid $5 for it, had I paid more for it I would've been a very mad girl. /shock Sephora has some good stuff on sale right now, namely the Super Shimmer Lip-glosses which are on sale now for $3, down from $10. Don't ya' just love a good sale. :)
Not awesome
You can kinda see some gold shimmer

Ole Henrikson Micro/Mini Peel System Review

I have always wanted to try an at home peel system for a good minute because I've been looking for something to help maintain my skin in between facials. I decided to try the Ole Henrikson peel system because its formulated without Sulfates- Synthetic Dyes- Petro-Chemicals- Phthalates- GMO- Triclosan which is perfect for me because I've been transitioning to using more natural products.
The Ole Henrikson Micro/Mini Peel System is a 3 step system that polishes, peels, and soothes your skin in 30 minutes and over time improves the overall appearance of your skin.

The Almond Polish smells sweet and almondy, which I liked, and it wasnt soapy or foamy at all. The polish has little bits of almond in it, so you have to be careful and not scrub too hard when using this stuff or else you will irritate your skin. My skin looked less dull after using this stuff.

The Lemon Strip contains lactic and glycolic acid and felt a little hot and tingly on my face when I first applied it, but not out of this world uncomfortable or anything. It had a spa-like product scent to it, if that even makes sense. I left it on for 2 minutes as instructed.

Chamomile Comfort is the soothing lotion that takes away the tingly sensation from the lemon strip. I applied it over the lemon strip and left it on for half an hour. The lotion has chamomile, evening primrose, jojoba, and grape seed oil in it, which give it a pleasant smell and helped my skin feel softer afterwards.

When all was said and done, I liked the end results. I had a zit on my chin that shrunk a little afterwards and my skin was smoother and a bit more radiant afterwards. I had zero redness or flakiness on my skin. The only problem with this product is the price-a whopping $95 at Sephora. I got samples of this product from Sephora and that's why I tried it. I did, however, start to see a difference in my skin and my skin felt great afterwards. I will probably buy the smaller kit from another beauty retailer for $45.

It's Here! Nails Inc. Magnetic Polish

Guess what arrived last night in my mailbox...If you guessed Nails Inc. Magnetic Polish in Trafalgar Square then your guessed right!!! :)
Trafalgar Square w/ flash
As soon as I woke up this morning (early this morning) I had to get my magnetic mani on! (I was so antsy to post swatch pics) I must say the end result of this stuff is sooo cool. Its so different and adds instant edge to your manicure. I chose Trafalgar Square, a metallic chrome color, because to me it was the edgiest color (perfect for the Fall). The purple being my second favorite color in this collection, the gold I think is just OK.

These magnetic polishes come with a removable overcap, that has a small lip guide at the end which goes just below the edge of your cuticle when you are ready to create the magnetic effect. I applied my base coat, then one layer of polish. I waited a little while for the first layer of polish to dry before I applied a semi-thick layer of polish (one nail at a time), then quickly held the magnet over each nail for about 10 seconds. If you hold the magnet over the polish for less than that the effect is less pronounced and will fade out a little as it sets.

The formula applied well, but the brush was a little on the stiff side. The effect looks 3D to me for some reason. :) I can say I am very pleased with my Trafalgar Square, it looks awesome!

CHI Ceramic Nail Lacquer Review

Hey Lovelies!

I'm expecting delivery of my Nails Inc. Magnetic Polish today, so if my package gets here early enough I should have swatches ready for you guys later today if not tomorrow. So now onto my CHI nail polish review...Did you know they made nail polish? I didn't either lol :)) I love all of CHI's hair products, love, love, love, because their products really do deliver as promised. When I saw the bottles of CHI polish I figured why not, if they're anything like their hair products I'm sure I'll love the polish too.

I picked up Milk Shake, a creamy milky color with a hint of pink. I chose this color because believe it or not I don't have many colors like this (i.e. classic French mani appropriate) and I figured if it to my liking I could easily gift it to my conservative Auntie.

Here's what CHI has to say about their polish: "CHI 44 Ceramic provides added strength, durability and chip resistance for a long lasting wear formula. Silk provides added shine and ease of application.  Nano Silver kills bacteria and fungus.  CHI Ceramic Nail Lacquer contains no harmful ingredients like formaldehyde, toluene and DBP."
Milkshake applied OK, pleasantly self-leveling and set surprisingly fast, but application was kind of a pain because the brush was so friggin' small. Grrrrr! My thumb ended up a bit on the brushstrokey side because of it. I also needed about 4 coats of polish to get the color you see in the pics, but its a sheer polish so I'm kinda not surprised just a little disappointed. The wear was average (not out of this world long-wearing honestly) and it dried to a nice shiny finish.
Overall, I did like Milkshake and I think that its the perfect combo color for a classic French manicure. This color is definitely office appropriate and a really pretty color if you're attending something like a wedding. The price was $6 for a 0.5 oz. bottle. Here it is with a French tip:

What do you think of Milkshake? Does it bring all the boys to the yard?

Eyes Ablazed with Maybelline's Amethyst Ablazed!

I picked up Maybelline Eyestudios Eyeshadow Color Explosion Palette in Amethyst Ablazed today. I've seen the commercial for these playing for the past few weeks and could not wait to wrap my fingers around this bad ass palette. :)
Amethyst Ablazed

Amethyst Ablazed comes with shadows in various shades of purple although the palettes are also available in brown, pink, blue and green. The palette comes with all the colors you need to make a perfect smokey eye. Amethyst comes with some vibrant eyeshadows that look amazing on! These colors are super soft and out blend easily. The luminizing glitter topcoat is ENTIRELY TOOOO glitter. This stuff will light your eyes up like a disco ball and has some serious fallout issues. The glitter got all over my face, IN my eyes and all over my counter. I would skip it, or use it sparingly like you see in the photos.

Oh and by the way....

Cheap & Great Eyeliner!

Hi guys and dolls! /hihi

I made a great discovery that must be shared...e.l.f.'s Cream Eyeliner. I've always heard that e.l.f. makes some decent makeup products, but that it can be a little hit or miss with them. Well this cream eyeliner did not miss the mark! The cream liner really is pigmented and true to color. It's also smudge-proof and waterproof.

I loved how easily this stuff applies, it honestly does glide on like a dream and has some good wear time. The best part about e.l.f.'s Cream Eyeliner is the price, only $3. Yup, you read that right $3 bucks!

The Cream Eyeliners come with an angled brush, which do an OK job at applying the liner but I already own a better and larger angled brush that I will continue using for gel liner application. The brush that came with my plum liner was defective, thumbs down on that one e.l.f. I've also heard that these can dry up pretty quick, so storing them upside down might help with that. I still think that the application, wear, and price make up for these negative points.

I recommend these little gems because they are cheap, awesome and really do deliver! Oh yea :)

Get Jiggy with Benefit's Get Figgy

I purchased Benefit's Cream Eyeshadow in Get Figgy ($19) a few weeks back and finally have gotten around to reviewing it. Get Figgy is a purple-pink cream shadow with a hint of shimmer that also doubles as a liner. This cream shadow is nicely pigmented and lends itself well to blending out so you don't have to worry about rough edges on your smokey eye makeup. I, also, like that the shadow was very buildable meaning that I could easily layer up this color to get the intensity I want. Get Figgy looks best with pink and purple shadow shades, my favorite pairing so far has been with MAC's deep eggplant shadow called Shadowy Lady as a crease color. For all my brown-eyed babes Get Figgy will really make your eyes pop.
MAC makes Paint Pots, which are also creaseless cream shadows with loads of staying power. They apply exactly the same as Benefit Cream Shadows and have excellent pigmentation. Paint Pots come in a greater variety of shades and come in both shimmer and matte colors (Benefit only offers shimmers so far). The cost of a MAC Paint Pot is $17.50 for a 0.17 fl oz. container while Benefit's Cream Shadows are $19 for a 0.16 fl oz. container. MAC gives you more bang for the $$$$, however, either product you choose will last you a lifetime.

Tip: If you are in a warm, humid environment or oily lids apply a small amount of primer before applying your cream eyeshadow.

UPDATE**NAIL'S INC MAGNETIC NAIL POLISH NOW AVAILABLE**

The Magnetic Nail Polish from Nail's Inc. was just released and is available for purchase at Sephora.com. I called my local Sephora to see if they had any in store yet and sadly they didn't. The Sephora rep told me she wasn't sure when the magnetic polishes would be coming in but she gave me the impression that it would be soon. I ordered one of the polishes online, nonetheless, because I just couldn't wait and I figured by the time my store stocks them the polish will be waiting for me in my mailbox. I picked up Trafalgar Square, so look out next week for a swatch and review.

Kryolan Lip Rouge Set Swatches & Review

Hey gang!

So now that I've calmed down enough from the Missoni for Target frenzy, how about a quick review on some lip product?

If you haven't heard about it, Kryolan is a German cosmetics (cruelty-free) company that specializes in theater, film and television quality makeup. Their products are intended to give you  flawless, camera ready looks. I've heard that their face products like foundation and powders can be a little heavy on your skin for the day to day, but I don't have much experience with these. (I got large TV paint stick samples at the Kryolan store and will review these soon)

They were having a sale this weekend when I decided to check out their shop and picked up their LRS111 Nudes & Browns lipstick palette. These lipsticks are crazy pigmented! They look on the lip exactly like how the look in the palette. They are best applied with a lip brush and the bestest part is that these colors are BLENDABLE. You can play around with all the colors in these palettes by mixing the lip colors to create your own shades!  I really like this lip set a lot because I can create different shades of nude lips and the shimmer color in the middle kicks up the look of any lipstick. My favorite lip color is LC157, its like reddish brown, terracotta color.
L-R Lip Colors: LF407, LF411, LP649, LC157, LC141

Top to Bottom: LF411, LF407, LP649, LC157, LC141

LF411 & LP649 Blended

LC157 & LC141 Blended

Blended LC157 & LC141 on lip

My one negative point is that the lipsticks didn't feel creamy and moisturizing, but that nothing that a little lip balm application before my lipstick won't fix. This lip set was a good deal, $12.50 for a set of 5 quality lip colors that can be combined to create new lip shades. BEWARE: The Kryolan website shows the lip rouge set pic as including as lip brush, which it doesn't come with. (at least not when purchased in the Kryolan store)

HOLY MISSONI! MISSONI FOR TARGET HITS STORES TODAY

Missoni for Target was released today online and in stores....and boy was it CRAZY!! My hubby gets up around 5:45 am for work so I figured I would get up with him and try to get some of the items I had my eyes set on early. Well I put put everything I wanted in my cart and right when I clicked checkout THE SITE CRASHED!!! /omg

I realized that if I was going to get my hands on any Missoni goodness, I was going to have to put my big girl pants on and head out to my local Target store. I got there about 3 minutes before opening and there was a crowd of about 50+ people waiting outside. As soon as the Target clerk opened the doors the stampede began... it was sheer madness. I hung back a little to let the CRAY CRAYS pass me by, then I made it to the clothes section and went INNNNN.

I got exactly what I wanted:

Women were going in there and filling their carts with tons and tons of the same items to sell online via Ebay for RIDICULOUS markups. I was kinda mad seeing ebay scalpers tearing the house down and not letting kind, deal hunting folks like me enjoy the Missoni fashions for less. :(

I wasn't able to get the vase I wanted for my living room at the store because the scalpers beat me to the punch, however, when I got home I signed into the Target.com account and saw that the vase I soooo wanted was in my shopping cart! Yippeee! I checked out before the site crashed again and managed to get a $5 discount and free shipping. (Somebody up there must really like me :D)

All and all I'm very happy with my purchases. The clothes look well made and super cute. I didn't get a chance to look at the shoes, except for the cute rain boots, because by the time I got to the shoe department everything was gone! Hopefully, Target will replenish stock both online and in stores of the Missoni for Target items as the line is supposed to be in Target through October 22. Let's all keep our fingers crossed, because I so wanted to get that throw for my casa.

Military Glam for Fall 2011

The military trend will once again rule this Fall! From shades of olive to bronzed green, military greens are a MUST in your Fall nail polish wardrobe.

I thought I would share some of my favorite military inspired greens:

Essie's Sew Psyched is a pretty greyish green color. It has a hint of shimmer in it, which helps liven up the polish a bit. I really loved the formula on this color and it applied like a buttery dream. Here's a swatch of Sew Psyched applied in 2 coats.

NARS Mash is a golden green dream! Its awesomeness is best captured by flash :) The formula on NARS is prone to brush strokes, so its best to take your time when applying this baby. Try not to press down too hard when applying this polish. The end result is so worth it and GORGEOUS DARLING!
